Hello Reception,
I hope you are all keeping safe and enjoying your home learning. This morning I am going to start my day by saying something kind to someone in my family. You could do this too and hopefully it will make everyone smile.
Please remember I will do 2 drop-in zoom sessions a day, one at 10.30am and one at 2pm. You can ask any questions you wish to or show me some of your work. I will also read a story on an afternoon so feel free to drop in.
This morning your job is to practice your handwriting. Watch the video and practice at home.
This morning our exercise is Yoga. I would love it if you could send me some photos of you enjoying the yoga.
Phonics Activity
Today we are learning a new phoneme. Our new phase 3 phoneme is ‘sh’. Watch the video and see if you can join in. After watching the video, I would like you to practice writing some words with the ‘sh’ sound in. This could be shop, fish, dish and ship. Use one of those words to write your own sentence. Please remember to read your sentence back by sounding out each word to check it is correct.
Maths Activity
Comparing Height
Today, I would like you to build a tower. This could be done by using building blocks, animals laid flat on the floor or any object which you could count. Build your first tower and then challenge yourself to build one that is taller than the first tower and another that is smaller than the first tower. Talk to your family about which tower is the tallest, which is the smallest, which has fewer animals, which has the most animals and explain how you can be sure that is correct.
Reading
We recently looked at the front cover of the story ‘BOO’. Today, we are going to read the first part together. I am going to ask you some questions and I would like you to pause my video and tell your family what you think the answer could be.
Other activities:
- Read a phonics book on oxford owl or you can read your own phonics book if you have one. Remember to keep practicing so you become fluent with reading. Free eBook library | Oxford Owl from Oxford University Press
- This month we celebrate Chinese New Year. Watch the video and talk to your family about celebrating Chinese New Year. Then, you could dance to the dragon music. Can you make your own dance? Can you draw a dragon to celebrate?
Well done Reception, your work for today is complete. I hope you have had a lovely day. Take lots of care, Miss Stone x
