English
SPAG (15 minutes): Suffixes
A suffix is a group of letters that can be added to the end of a word to make a new word. Suffixes can tell us useful information about a root word. Sometimes the spelling of the root word changes when a suffix is added. For example when you add ‘ly’ to the word ‘happy’. The ‘y’ in the word ‘happy’ changes to ‘i’ and then you add ‘ly’.
Task 1 – add ‘ous’ or ‘ly’ to spell the words below correctly. Then write the words out in full. Remember some spellings may need to change when you add the suffix.
fame =
angry =
humour =
scary =
adventure =
day =
Task 2 –
Writing (45 minutes): To create a story board
Today you are going to continue with your creative cartoon writing. You are going to create your own cartoon character. When you have created your character, you are going to add it to the cartoon we are focusing on and create your own scene for the cartoon using a setting and a plot. Be as creative as you can. Watch the video below to understand how I want you to set your work out today.
Maths
Maths Meeting: Investigation (15 minutes)
For your maths meeting today, I want you to investigate this problem I have.
Chicken and Sheep
Mr Farrier looks across a field of chicken and sheep. He counts 26 heads and 74 legs. How many chicken and sheep does he have?
Try to represent this problem in different ways: pictures, models, cubes, graph, algebra, using 26 children, etc…
How did you work it out? Show me your ways of working it out.
Maths: Decimals (45 minutes)
Today you are going to be moving onto decimal sequences. You are going to investigate a range of questions and find the sequence of the decimals. The sequences can either get bigger or smaller. It is important you look at the columns closely. Watch the input and then complete the tasks below.
Task –
Challenge – True or False?
Mr Helper says to Mr Trainer that the missing number for the sequences below are the same. Is this True or False? Explain using Answer, Prove and Explain.
Reading
Reading for pleasure – Today, I want you to read for pleasure. Spend 10/15 minutes reading on your own. When you have read, I want you to write down 5 new things you have learnt from your reading. It would be great if you could read a non-fiction text but if you don’t, don’t worry.
Geography
In geography today, we are going to do something a little different. We are going to look at the different oceans in the world and create a fact file about one animal from each ocean. Last year, we looked at one land animal from each continent. Below you will see an example of the work from last year. I want you to set it out exactly the same but just change the continents for the oceans and the animals you find will also be different.
There are five oceans I want you to look at: Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern and Arctic. When creating your fact file, try and find many interesting facts: how long they live, why they live in that ocean, what they eat, do they live alone, how long have they been around and many other facts. Have fun creating this.
Here is an example question of what you might type in google.
What animals can you find in the pacific ocean?
Well Done
I am proud of your efforts.
Well done,
Mr Farrier.
