Good morning Year 5, I know times are tough and I know how hard it is to work at home. Your work makes me proud everyday, I appreciate your efforts. Make sure when you complete your work, you relax and enjoy your time at home. If you have any issues, please come onto the zoom and talk with me. On Monday and Tuesday, I didn’t have anyone come and ask for help yet I had people email saying they were struggling. Please use me as extra guidance and help where needed.

SPAG (15 minutes): Identifying colons.

For today’s task you are going to identify and add the correct clause before the colon and list. Remember the clause must make sense on it’s own before having a colon and then followed by a list. Write out the correct clause followed by the colon and list given to you.

Writing (45 minutes): To create a wanted poster

Today you are going to created a wanted poster. I want you to go back to the Ali Baba story and you are going to write as one of the villains. Imagine they know about Ali Baba sneaking into your cave and you are on the hunt for him. In the middle of your page I want you to create a picture of him and then write me a detailed paragraph about him.

Here are some things to think about,

  • what he looks like?
  • where was he last spotted?
  • how might he act if you find him?
  • why you are looking for him?
  • when he was last spotted?
  • who he might be with?

I want you to include these SPaG components in your writing,

  • similes
  • prepositional phrases
  • adjectival phrases describing him
  • complex sentences
  • emotion
  • alliteration

Enjoy this task. Be as creative as possible. Below is a template you might want to use.

Look at the questions below. They are both problem solving questions. You are required to work it out and then prove whether they are correct or not.

Reading

VIPERS task –

For reading this afternoon I would like you to read a book to an adult. Record the following in your writing book.

Whilst reading, please can you select some tricky vocabulary words from your text and clarify these words. What do they mean? Why are they used? Use the internet to help you if you don’t know what they mean.

Also, whilst reading, look at some difficult explanation phrases you might not understand and ask a parent what they mean. If you are still struggling, type it in google and write down what you find.

At the end of your reading session, I would like you to summarise what has happened. What did you learn? What did you not expect?

When you’ve done that, take some time to just relax and read for another 5 or 10 minutes. Enjoy your reading time.
