Good morning everyone. I hope you are all well and managing to complete the activities on our last week of lockdown. I am getting so excited for next week and can’t wait until we are all back at school.

We have two zoom sessions a day for children who want to attend. The sessions are at 11am and 1.30pm and I will read a story during each session.

  • Share stories with your children daily, they are hugely important in their learning.
  • Please sing or say rhymes with your child. If you do not know the tune, don’t worry. Your child might know it, or you can make up a tune or you could always say it rather than sing it. See Day 1 for the words to some of our popular rhymes.
  • Please find opportunities for counting daily. This might be when playing with toys, having tea, or walking up the stairs.

Pre-nursery

Floating and Sinking – Have a tub of water or perhaps try the activity in the bath. Talk about what happens as things are put into the water. Find things that float and things that sink. Use the words float and sink to describe what is happening.

Peppa Pig – Watch the video of Peppa Pig on the train. Talk about Maisy Mouse’s journey yesterday and compare it to Peppa Pig’s journey today. Perhaps your child could pretend that they were going on a journey again.

Nursery

Phonics – Environmental Sounds – Encourage your child to move and make the sound of a jungle animal as you say it’s name. So when you say lion they need to stalk and roar. When you say snake they need to slither and hiss. When you say monkey they need to swing and say ‘ooh ooh’. When you say parrot they need to fly and squawk. When you say frog they need to jump and say ‘ribbit’. Once your child knows the action and sound for each animal just say the animal names and see if your child can remember the right action and sound.

Floating and Sinking – Have a tub of water or perhaps try the activity in the bath. Talk about what happens as things are put into the water. Find things that float and things that sink. Use the words float and sink to describe what is happening. See if your child can guess what might happen before they put the things in the water.

Whatever Next – Watch the video of the story. Talk with your child about Baby Bear’s journey. Perhaps your child could pretend that they were going on a journey to the moon.

Please can you keep in touch with me via email to let me know how your child is getting on. Alternatively you could send me a message below. It would be lovely if you could send a photo or two of your children in their play. My email address is: clister@handale.rac.sch.uk

Take care,

Mrs Lister
