Hello Reception,

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and you are ready for another week of home learning. We are now in our fourth week of home learning. I cannot believe how quickly the weeks are passing by. It has been lovely to see so many of you on our zoom sessions. It has made me smile seeing your smiley faces. Keep working hard and remember, I will be giving pride points to those people who are working their socks off.

Please remember I will do 2 drop-in zoom sessions a day, one at 10.30am and one at 2pm. You can ask any questions you wish to or show me some of your work. I will also read a story on an afternoon so feel free to drop in.

This morning your job is to practice writing some words using your magic fingers to sound them out first. The words I would like you to practice are: fox, box, six, mix, hop, top and mat.

Today, I am going to set you an extra challenge. I would like you to draw a picture to show what your time at home has been like. Think about 2020 and what things you experienced. How did you feel about learning from home? Were your parents at home with you? Did you have things to celebrate? After drawing your picture you could write some words on there to show how you were feeling. You could also ask your family to help you write some words.

This morning’s exercise is Joe Wicks. Here is the link:

Phonics Activity

This morning we are going to recap our phonics flashcards, read some words and spell some words. Please watch the video and join in.

After watching the video, I would like you to have a go at writing some more words including fan, pan, tap, sack and full.

Then, ask someone in your family to write the words pull, sat, cat, mat, to, the and ball on a piece of paper. For every word you read correctly let me know and I will give you a pride point.

Maths Activity

In maths today we are going to think about comparing numbers to 10. We are going to look at groups of numbers and see which group has more objects in and which group has less objects in. Watch the video and join in.

After watching the video, you could create two groups of objects with someone in your house. See if you can write the number of objects in each group. Then, discuss with your family which has more and which has less. Can you tell them how you know that it is more or less?.

Reading

Today we are going to start a new author book. Our new author is Lynley Dodd. Can you tell your family what an author does?. Watch the first part of the story and join in with the questions.

Other activities:

  • Read a phonics book on oxford owl or you can read your own phonics book if you have one. Remember to keep practicing so you become fluent with reading. Free eBook library | Oxford Owl from Oxford University Press.
  • Go on a number hunt around your house. What numbers can you find? Can you write all the numbers down that you find?
  • Go on a treasure hunt around your house to find things beginning with ‘r’
  • Go outside and find some leaves. Can you draw a picture of the leaves? If you have some paint you could try and paint the leaves.

Remember to send me an email to let me know how you get on.

Well done Reception, your work for today is complete. Please try and upload your child’s work by completing the submission below.
