English
SPAG (15 minutes): Commas
Commas are a very important part of writing because they can be used in a variety of ways. They can be used in: a list, after openers, to split clauses and to avoid confusion. Today you are going to focus on commas to split a subordinate clause to a main clause and also commas to change the means of sentences.
Task 1 – Look at the sentences below. I want you to write the sentences out as they are and then underline the subordinate clause in each sentence and add the missing comma where it is needed. Does every sentence need a comma?
Task 2
Explain how adding or moving a comma changes the meaning of these sentences.
A)
My least favourite things about school are history teachers and detention.
My least favourite things about school are history, teachers and detention.
B)
In the town square, people were looking at the shops.
In the town, square people were looking at the shops.
Writing (45 minutes): To write a traditional tale
Today we are coming to the end of our shared write. This part of the story is the ending. Watch the clip below and then use the success criteria to create your own ending paragraph. I think an ending paragraph is important because the reader has read all the way through the book and wants to finish the book on a positive thinking that was great instead of thinking that was a poor, boring ending.
Within your ending paragraph, I want you to include the following success criteria:
- adjectival phrases
- rhetorical questions
- range of openers
- multi-clause sentences
- embedded relative clause
Maths
Maths Meeting: Find the missing number (15 minutes)
Think about using inverse operation on some of your questions.
- 4835 – _______ = 2339
- _______ – 2844 = 4859
- ______ + 3932 = 7464
- 4 x _______ = 92
- _______ + 6575 = 12564
Maths Meeting: Decimals (45 minutes)
On Monday, we are moving onto thousandths of a number so today we are going to embed our previous learning from the week. Watch the video below and answer the questions from it. Pause the video when I ask you to. When you have finished a video, there is an extra challenge for you to complete.
Challenge: True or False?
In as much detail as you can, answer this question using True or False. Answer the question, prove your answer and then explain it in detail.
Reading
Poster challenge:
I want you to create a poster for your favourite book. Imagine you are trying to sell your favourite book. It needs to be: bright, colourful, full of detail, have snappy headlines, how much it costs, pictures, reviews about the book and where you can buy it. Have fun.
Handwriting
Today, you are going to focus on the letter p. Remember how important we continue to write neatly in every piece of work we complete and use our ascenders and descenders correctly.
Story
Relax, enjoy a story to yourself and reflect on your day.
I am proud of your efforts.
Well done,
Mr Farrier.
