Good morning. It has been so lovely to hear about so many of our pre-nursery and nursery children through phone calls and emails. Thank you to all our parents and carers for their support.
We have two zoom sessions a day for children who want to attend. The sessions are at 11am and 1.30pm and I will read a story during each session.
Things to be completed everyday:
- Share stories with your children daily, they are hugely important in their learning.
- Please sing or say rhymes with your child. If you do not know the tune, don’t worry. Your child might know it, or you can make up a tune or you could always say it rather than sing it. See Day 1 for the words to some of our popular rhymes.
- Please find opportunities for counting daily. This might be when playing with toys, having tea, or walking up the stairs.
Pre-nursery
Mobile Phone – show your child your mobile phone. Listen to the different ring tones, look for numbers and talk about how to dial and end calls. Make your child their own mobile phone by adding paper to a small box. Make the box look like a mobile phone by adding numbers etc. Take turns to call each other on your phones and chat together.
Language of shape – try to find opportunities today to use the language of shape with your child. This might be when playing with their toys, on a walk, getting dressed, reading a book, having a meal or having a bath. Words that can be used: round, flat, straight, curved, corner, edge, side etc.
Nursery
Phonics – Instrumental Sounds – Matching Sound Makers. Watch the clip and see if your child can hear which instrument is being played. Perhaps you could find things that make sounds around your home and hide them when they are being played, to see if your child can guess which sound it is.
Goldilocks and the 3 Bears – Watch the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. You could use puppets or teddies to retell the story. The story provides lots of opportunities to count and match (3 bowls, spoons, chairs, beds, bears).
Shapes – We have looked at circles, squares and triangles. Ask your child if they remember how many sides a circle has. That’s right, 1 curved side. Ask your child if they remember how many sides a square has. That’s right, 4 straight sides. Ask your child if they remember how many sides a triangle has. That’s right 3 straight sides. Today I would like you to ask your child if they know what shape this is.
Discuss the properties of a rectangle. They have 4 straight sides, 2 long sides and 2 shorter sides and 4 corners. You could then go on a hunt for rectangles around your house. Here is a video about rectangles.
